The sound of this orchestra is truly impressive: with four bandoneons, four violins, one piano and one double bass,
Germanys biggest Tango orchestra creates a great energy. Live on stage this travel into Tango times has been
around for a few years - now it is finally available on CD.
After the first round of listening it already becomes clear: this is a really good record. 15 danceable tracks with
the charme of a live-record offer the full range of music (full power to soft) and are simply a pleasure to listen and
dance to. "Sabor a Tango" is not only a tango orchestra in classic formation, but also an homage to the legendary
orchestras of the Epoca de Oro. The bonus: grand master Luis Stazo (Sexteto Mayor) collaborated for seven tracks.
Comparing a recording of this production with the underlying arrangement, the effort of the musicians becomes
clear. Sometimes it is only a nuance that prove how these ten musicians bring legendary songs and arrangements
to the stage in the finest quality and play them without much alteration. To me that pay witness to the respect
towards the original tracks and the careful placement of individual play.
I especially enjoyed Quejas de Bandoneon in the arrangement of the orchestra of Troilo (full of energy and variety,
with a beautiful intro by Luis Stazo, which a DJ might blank out), the cleverly arranged Si soy asi, the thoughtfully
progessring La Viruta (hits the legs), the sophisticated Arrabal around styles of Pugliese (everything is there from
dramatic-powerful to sensitive-cautious, plus the beautifully played violines) and Yunta de Oro - also Pugliese and
simply great!
Among the Milongas, it is Delirio de la Milonga by Peter Reil himself (nicely accentuated in the rythm) and
Relinquias Portenas (fresh and loose - great for a dance!).
Among the Valses it's La Pulpera de Santa Lucia (sensual, for dreaming) and Desde del Alma (in the most commonly
known arrangement of Pugliese).
The CD also offers Pablo, Mala Junta, Orlando Goni and La Cumparsita - four additional very danceable Tangos
as well as two fast Tangos Nuecvos: Tanguera and Verano Porten, while the latter was modified by Luis Stazo
especially for dancers.
Conclusion: a successful homage to the grand orchestras; moves the legs!
